A former NFL player is suing his doctor after he said he was diagnosed with cervical and pelvic cancer by the same doctor.
The lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Houston says Dr. Jeffrey L. Shultz falsely diagnosed the former Green Bay Packers linebacker with cervical, ovarian, and ovarian cancer.
“Dr. Shatz was a highly respected and respected medical professional and his diagnosis of Mr. Shantz was a very accurate one,” attorney David Stansbury said in the suit, which was filed Tuesday.
“Mr. Shamps diagnosis of the disease, as well as his repeated refusal to provide a specific diagnosis, is a clear and documented violation of his ethical and professional obligations to patients, and he has failed to correct the serious and widespread misdiagnosis of Mr.”
Shultz.
Shuts a claim that was previously filed in federal court.
A hearing in the case is scheduled for Jan. 21.
The suit says Shultz, who was a linebacker for the Packers from 2008 to 2010, was diagnosed at his Houston clinic in May of last year.
He told the doctor he had stage four cervical cancer and was scheduled to undergo surgery at the end of May.
“It was his first time seeing Dr. Shanks specialty,” Stansburys lawyer, Patrick T. O’Brien, said in a statement.
“This is a highly serious matter that has resulted in Dr. J.P. Shultzes dismissal.
Dr. Schultzes practice has been under review by the NFLPA and the NFL since the end on March 1.
Dr Shultz is being terminated immediately.”
Shuts another claim, filed in May, that the NFL had told the NFL Players Association in February that it would terminate the former player if he continued to refuse to take part in a voluntary physical exam.
“The NFLPA informed Dr. P.
S that he had been notified of the NFL’s decision to terminate his medical license in July of 2017,” the lawsuit says.
“At that time, the NFL told Dr. S that Dr.
S medical license would be terminated upon his refusal to undergo a voluntary exam.
However, Dr.
P._S.s refusal to participate in the voluntary exam was never communicated to Dr.
M._S., Dr.
J.”
Since Dr.
J.
P was terminated on March 12, 2018, Dr Shultses refusal to take the exam and/or the physical examination has continued to prevent Dr P._S from receiving the necessary medical care for his disease.”
